QuickEyeDropper

A small Chromium extension that grabs any color on screen. A fast eyedropper with a proper color picker, because I got tired of the built-in one being kind of clunky.

Overview

Sometimes you just want the hex code of a pixel on your screen and you want it now, not five clicks into a design tool you don’t have open. Not just that but sometimes you also want a tool that is able to tell you quickly, what are the complimentary colors for this? When we discuss how well a website stands up to the WCAG guidelines for accessibility, having a tool that do a quick sanity check on whether something actually passes was something I wanted to quickly whip up for myself. QuickEyeDropper puts an eyedropper and a proper color picker one click away. Sample any pixel, read the value, move on with your life.

It’s a small popup UI built around the iro.js color wheel, nothing fancy, just fast.

What it demonstrates

Honestly? Sometimes the best project is the small, shippable tool you built because you wanted it. This one’s the full browser-extension model end to end, packaging, a tidy popup UI, the whole loop, for a problem I ran into constantly.

The repo README has the load-unpacked install steps.
